The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on Tuesday, August 1st new guidance to assist stateless noncitizens in the United States. This guidance will help stateless noncitizens who wish to obtain immigration benefits and/or have submitted other requests to USCIS. A Stateless person is not legally considered a citizen of any country and most likely will be denied legal id, and other services like education, healthcare, marriages and jobs. The Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro N. Mayorkas stated, “With this historic step, stateless individuals will be given the opportunity to apply for immigration protections and benefits for which they are eligible.”

The American Immigration Council (AIC) has released all fifty states and the District of Columbia, for a total of fifty-one updated state-by-state fact sheets highlighting immigration data and facts. These fact sheets highlight the demographic and economic impact of Immigrants in each state.
With national immigration policy being discussed, we thought that it would be a good time to provide some statistics on the Immigrant population in the United States as provided by this AIC research. Once a week we will be posting a blog with information on three states at a time. This week we will highlight; West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming!
The AIC has compiled research which shows that Immigrants are an essential part of each of these states’ economy, labor force and tax base. As our economy continues to grow, Immigrants and their children are a growing economic and political force as consumers, taxpayers and entrepreneurs. As United States economic continues to grow, immigrants and their children will continue to play a key role in shaping the economic and political future of each of these states.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is reported to be assessing the situation along the Texas-Mexico border over the treatment of migrants by Texas State Troopers! It was reported to DOJ that Texas State Troopers were told to push migrants back into the Rio Grande River and ordered not to give them any water! The DOJ assessment is a possible first step toward a full investigation.
