The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is publishing fact sheets with information on the population that are eligible for naturalization in specific regions. These fact sheets provide information on select characteristics of people with Lawful Permanent Residence (LPR) status, also known as Green Card holders in the different regions of the country. I have included three of the regions below.

This news article uses data to find the top U.S. cities where immigrants are moving and thriving! They have made a top 10 metro areas list where immigrants are moving within the United States once they have immigrated. Below is a list of cities with the highest net domestic migration rate from 2010 to 2020! 

The top 10 metro areas for immigrants’ well-being: 

  1. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, California 

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has released new data on Effective Reduction of Backlogs, Support for Humanitarian Missions, and Fiscal Responsibility in the form of a Progress Report! On Wednesday, December 7th, USCIS released its Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 progress report (PDF) with new information demonstrating how it reduced backlogs in certain programs and supported humanitarian missions. USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddo stated, “We have made measurable progress towards building a more humane immigration system thanks to the innovation and dedication of the USCIS workforce. There is more work to do, especially to reduce processing times for all people we serve, and congressional support is critical to achieving our ambitious backlog reduction goals in the year ahead.”

If you are making any paper filings with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), they have made a list of recommendations for such filings to avoid scanning delays. USCIS is moving to an electronic environment which requires them to scan and upload many of the documents that they receive. The United States and Mexico have made a deal that Venezuelans who came into the U.S. illegally can be expelled to Mexico under Title 42. Title 42 is a World War II-era public health order that prohibits entry into the United States if they believe it could introduce communicable diseases into the country and has been used by the U.S. since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in March of 2020.

Update: Process for Venezuelans

USCIS announced on Monday, October 24th, that they were extending the Flexibilities that they originally announced in March 2020. These flexibilities are for responding to certain requests from the USCIS, some are listed below: 

  • Requests for Evidence; 
  • Continuations to Request Evidence (N-14); 

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) has created a document online on their research library listing all the 2022 USCIS form updates in reverse chronological order! This document lists updates of all forms issued by USCIS! Note: check the USCIS website for the latest updates and correct version of USCIS forms!

The Biden administration announced that it will resume immigrant visa processing in Havana, Cuba to discourage illegal immigration from that country. A record number of Cubans are fleeing to the United States though the Mexico border in the last few years. 

A State Department Official stated, “These efforts are a key step to meet the U.S. commitment under the U.S.-Cuba Migration Accords to ensure that total legal migration to the United States from Cuba will be a minimum of 20,000 Cubans each year, not including immediate relatives of U.S. citizens,”.
