The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on Wednesday, September 14th, that effective October 1, 2021, all applicants subject to an immigration medical examination must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19! The COVID-19 vaccination must be finished before the civil surgeon can complete and sign the applicant’s immigration medical examination, Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record.

USCIS reminds their clients that if your address changed you should also update it with them! You should update your address with USCIS to ensure you receive all correspondence and benefits without delay and avoid possible interruptions related to your case. Changing your address with just the USPS could cause delays and will not officially change it with the USCIS.

The American Immigration Council (AIC) has released all fifty states and the District of Columbia, for a total of fifty-one updated state-by-state fact sheets highlighting immigration data and facts. These fact sheets highlight the demographic and economic impact of Immigrants in each state.

With national immigration policy being discussed, we thought that it would be a good time to provide some statistics on the Immigrant population in the United States as provided by this AIC research. Once a week we will be posting a blog with information on three states at a time. This week we will highlight; Oklahoma, Oregon and Pennsylvania!

The AIC has compiled research which shows that Immigrants are an essential part of each of these states’ economy, labor force and tax base. As our economy continues to grow, Immigrants and their children are a growing economic and political force as consumers, taxpayers and entrepreneurs. As United States economic continues to grow, immigrants and their children will continue to play a key role in shaping the economic and political future of each of these states.

As of Thursday, August 12th, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is temporarily extending the period for Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record! They have temporarily extended the validity of this form from two years to four years.

USCIS may consider a completed Form I-693 as valid if:

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has expanded its Partnership with Social Security Administration (SSA)! Applicants filing for lawful permanent resident status will soon be able to apply for their Social Security Number (SSN) or replacement card as part of the adjustment of status application process, Form I-485. USCIS is in the process of revising Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status to include the additional questions needed to apply for an SSN or a replacement card.

USCIS Director, Ur M. Jaddou stated, “This expansion of our partnership with the Social Security Administration illustrates our commitment to operating our nation’s immigration system more efficiently to save applicants time,”

USCIS announced on Thursday, June 24th, that they were extending the flexibilities that they originally announced on March 30, 2020. These flexibilities are for responding to certain requests from the USCIS, some are listed below:

  • Requests for Evidence;
  • Continuations to Request Evidence (N-14);

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) would like to help the Untied States to reopen after the COVID pandemic and to reestablish our country as a welcoming nation!
