Immigrants in each State (fact sheets): OK, OR and PA (Update 8-6-20)

The American Immigration Council (AIC) has released all fifty states and the District of Columbia, for a total of fifty-one updated state-by-state fact sheets highlighting immigration data and facts. These fact sheets highlight the demographic and economic impact of Immigrants in each state.

With national immigration policy being discussed, we thought that it would be a good time to provide some statistics on the Immigrant population in the United States as provided by this AIC research. Once a week we will be posting a blog with information on three states at a time. This week we will highlight; Oklahoma, Oregon and Pennsylvania!

The AIC has compiled research which shows that Immigrants are an essential part of each of these states’ economy, labor force and tax base. As our economy continues to grow, Immigrants and their children are a growing economic and political force as consumers, taxpayers and entrepreneurs. As United States economic continues to grow, immigrants and their children will continue to play a key role in shaping the economic and political future of each of these states.

USCIS Temporarily Extending Validity Period of Form I-693

As of Thursday, August 12^th, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is temporarily extending the period for Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record! They have temporarily extended the validity of this form from two years to four years.

USCIS may consider a completed Form I-693 as valid if:

The civil surgeon’s signature is dated no more than 60 days before the applicant filed Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status;

USCIS Expands Partnership with Social Security Administration

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has expanded its Partnership with Social Security Administration (SSA)! Applicants filing for lawful permanent resident status will soon be able to apply for their Social Security Number (SSN) or replacement card as part of the adjustment of status application process, Form I-485. USCIS is in the process of revising Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status to include the additional questions needed to apply for an SSN or a replacement card.

USCIS Director, Ur M. Jaddou stated, “This expansion of our partnership with the Social Security Administration illustrates our commitment to operating our nation’s immigration system more efficiently to save applicants time,”

Reminder – USCIS Extends Flexibility for Responding to Agency Requests

AILA proposes Ten-Point Plan to Reopen America

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) would like to help the Untied States to reopen after the COVID pandemic and to reestablish our country as a welcoming nation! They have proposed a ten-point plan to reopen America to the World. The AILA believes this plan will help to eliminate pandemic-related consular backlogs.

Justice Department Backs Away from Fight with Immigration Judges Union!

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is now moving away from the Trump administration’s effort to decertify the union that represents immigration judges! This has been a two-year battle, with the Trump Administration stating that the immigration judges were management and should not have union representation. Amiena Khan, the president of the National Association of Immigration Judges (NAIJ) says she is “optimistic”! The NAIJ represents over 500 immigration judges.

Statement from USCIS Acting Director Tracy Renaud in Honor of Immigrant Heritage Month

Last Wednesday, June 16, 2021, Acting Director for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Tracy Renaud released a statement on the celebration of June as Immigrant Heritage Month! This Heritage Month honors contributions made by immigrants in communities across the United States.

This is that last paragraph of her official statement below:

“Diversity is part of what makes America strong and what makes USCIS so important. The work we do each day has a direct impact on individuals and families who hope to call America home. Celebrating Immigrant Heritage Month is a celebration of America since we are, after all, a nation of immigrants.”
