The Pentagon would like to restart a program for recruiting immigrants with specific skills desired by the U.S. Military with the promise of gaining U.S. citizenship. The program called Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI) would allow thousands of people with critical medical or Asian and African language skills to join the military. The stricter Trump Administration immigration policies have stalled the program.

Secretary of Defense, James N. Mattis backs the restart of the MAVNI program. He stated, “We need and want every qualified patriot willing to serve and able to serve,”

Just three days after beginning the use of new Face-Scanning technology at Dulles Airport in Virginia, the CBP got a hit. A young man traveling from Sao Paulo, Brazil, tried to use a French passport, but the new face-detection technology spotted he didn’t match the passport photo. CBP stated it was the first time this technology has detected an impostor!

Once a week we will be posting a blog with information on three states at a time. This week we will highlight; Rhode Island, South Carolina and South Dakota!

The AIC has compiled research which shows that Immigrants are an essential part of each of these states’ economy, labor force and tax base. USCIS posted on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 that it is now accepting applications for two funding opportunities under the Citizenship and Assimilation Grant Program! This Grant Program provides up to $10 million in grants each year for citizenship preparation programs across the United States. These grants are fee-funded and the training is for lawful permanent residents (LPRs). LPRs are non-citizens who are lawfully authorized to live permanently within the United States and are on the path to citizenship if pursued.
