New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate but it is also a time to reflect back on the good and bad times that we have encountered the past year. For the new babies born and the friends and loved ones lost, let’s all take a moment to think of each. We here at MVP Law Group would hope that everyone has a wonderful evening of celebration planned, whether it is in solitude or with loved ones and friends! Our wish is that you are happy and safe!

Happy New Year’s Eve!

“It is the day when we remind ourselves that man can and must live in peace with his neighbors and that it is the peacemakers who are truly blessed…” – John F. Kennedy December 17, 1962

Happy Holidays, from our family to yours!

Attorney Kellie Lego has been selected to the 2016 Super Lawyers – Maryland Rising Stars list in the field of Immigration Law. Each year, no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor. A candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less. This is Kellie’s fourth consecutive Maryland Rising Star honor (2013-2016).

Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters business, is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The annual selections are made using a patented multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. The result is a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of exceptional attorneys.

The Super Lawyers lists are published nationwide in Super Lawyers Magazines and in leading city and regional magazines and newspapers across the country. Super Lawyers Magazines also feature editorial profiles of attorneys who embody excellence in the practice of law. For more information about Super Lawyers, visit SuperLawyers.com.

All of us at MVP Law Group would like to wish everyone a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving 2015 marks 152 years of a national tradition. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday of November as a “day of Thanksgiving and Praise,” making Thanksgiving Day an annual holiday.

“So if you’re an American, and you see a veteran — maybe with a prosthetic arm or leg, maybe burns on their face — don’t ever look away. Do not turn away. You go up and you reach out, and you shake their hand, and you look them in the eye and you say those words every veteran should hear all the time: “Welcome home, thank you. We need you more than ever. You help us stay strong, you help us stay free.” – President Obama

Excerpt from remarks made by the President of the United States at the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial Dedication (10/5/14)

In the United States, Veterans Day is a national holiday which is observed every November 11th. This holiday is set aside to honor all who have served in the U.S. Military.

“The basic bargain of America is that no matter who you are, where you come from or what you look like, if you work hard & play by the rules, you can make it.” — Labor Secretary Tom Perez

The Labor Day holiday in United States is celebrated the first Monday in September. Labor Day was really created by the national labor movements to celebrate the American worker and their achievements, both social and economic! Each of us that work every day, immigrant or citizen, this is our celebration! For more information about the history of Labor Day review the Department of Labor’s (DOL) web page, “History of Labor Day”.

MVP Law Group would like to thank workers worldwide for their contributions to our society!

“Immigrants signed their names to our Declaration and helped win our independence. Immigrants helped lay the railroads and build our cities, calloused hand by calloused hand. Immigrants took up arms to preserve our union, to defeat fascism, and to win a Cold War. Immigrants and their descendants helped pioneer new industries and fuel our Information Age, from Google to the iPhone. So the story of immigrants in America isn’t a story of “them,” it’s a story of “us.” It’s who we are. And now, all of you get to write the next chapter.” – President Barack Obama

No matter what your plans are for this Fourth of July, make it a memorable day by spending time with your family and friends. Have a picnic, go to the fireworks, watch a parade or just celebrate with a quiet moment. Please remember those brave men and women who gave their lives to defend our country and its freedoms.

Memorial Day in United States

“This weekend, folks across the country are opening up the pool, firing up the grill, and taking a well-earned moment to relax. But Memorial Day is more than a three-day weekend. In town squares and national cemeteries, in public services and moments of quiet reflection, we will honor those who loved their country enough to sacrifice their own lives for it.”

– President Obama, Memorial Day 2012 at Arlington National Cemetery

MVP Law Group would like to remind everyone to watch President Obama’s State of the Union Address. He will be speaking Tuesday Evening, January 20, 2015 at 9:00 PM EST live from the U.S. Capitol. The White House has suggested that the focus of the address will be Internet Access, Education, Jobs, Cuba, Health Care and his Executive Actions on Immigration. We will be listening for any new or expanded information on his proposal for Immigration Reform and his Executive Actions on Immigration.

As usual, we will be posting more information on any of the President’s Immigration Reform Proposals and/or Actions that are included in the speech on our Immigration Blog!

Remember: 2015 State of the Union Address

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.
