The American Immigration Council (AIC) has released all fifty states and the District of Columbia, for a total of fifty-one updated state-by-state fact sheets highlighting immigration data and facts. These fact sheets highlight the demographic and economic impact of Immigrants in each state.

With national immigration policy being discussed, we thought that it would be a good time to provide some statistics on the Immigrant population in the United States as provided by this AIC research. Once a week we will be posting a blog with information on three states at a time. This week we will highlight; Tennessee, Texas and Utah!

  1. I was not selected in the H-1B CAP lottery process. Am I eligible for the TN visaThere may be several options available to you, you should schedule a consultation with an experienced Immigration Attorney to go through each of your options. First and foremost, the USCIS may conduct a 2nd random lottery selection process sometime in the summer if they do not receive enough filings from those selected in the initial registration process. If not selected in the lottery process, there are a plethora of other nonimmigrant visa options that may be available to you.

The TN visa is reserved exclusively for nationals of Canada and Mexico. Only certain professions are eligible, the profession must be listed in the regulations, and you must possess the qualifications necessary to practice in the profession. You must also have a pre-arranged full-time or part-time job lined up with a U.S. employer. The visa is valid for up to 3 years at a time.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced-on Thursday, April 18, 2024, that they have received enough petitions to reach the cap for the additional 19,000 H-2B visas made available for returning workers for the early second half of fiscal year (FY) 2024! They will continue to accept petitions for H-2B workers for the other 20,000 additional visas which have been allotted for nationals of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, Colombia, Ecuador, and Costa Rica.

Approximately two months ago the U.S. House voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, with only Republicans, which have the majority in the House, voting to impeach. Now the House Republicans have delivered the charges to the Democratic controlled Senate! The Senate is not expected to convict or remove the Secretary. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is expected to dispose of the charges quickly! Chuck Schumer stated that, “Impeachment should never be used to settle a policy disagreement. That would set a horrible precedent for the Congress,”!
