On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, the Department of Homeland Security announced that they were extending the designation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for the country of South Sudan for 18 months, from November 4, 2023, through May 3, 2025! Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas stated, “Through the extension and redesignation of South Sudan for Temporary Protected Status, the United States will continue to offer safety and protection to South Sudanese nationals who may not be able to return to their country due to the ongoing armed conflict and humanitarian crisis,”.

On Tuesday, August 29th, President Biden meant with the Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves who was here in the United States for a State visit. The meeting was held at the White House and discussed ways to strengthen an agreement between the countries to increase the legal ways for Central Americans who want to migrate to the United States.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas stated, “Under this extension and redesignation, we will continue to offer safety and protection to Sudanese nationals until conditions in their home country improve.”

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will be reopening a new international field office in Havana, Cuba. The new office is being created to assist with interviews and processing of pending Cuban Family Reunification Parole cases and Form I-730, Refugee/Asylee Relative Petition, along with other case work.
